Army bomb experts carried out a controlled explosion on a viable device outside a house in Co Longford on Saturday afternoon.

Army bomb experts carried out a controlled explosion on a viable device outside a house in Co Longford on Saturday afternoon.

A section of the N4 between Edgeworthstown and Longford was closed for over two hours following the discovery of the device on the outskirts of Edgeworthstown.

The Army said that, following further detailed analysis, the remains of the device would be handed over to gardaí to assist them in their investigation.
