Arms arsenal. . .

What the IRA is believed to have.

What the IRA is believed to have.

The security services in the State and in Britain, which include the Irish and British armies, the Garda, the Police Service of Northern Ireland and MI5, provided the decommissioning body with an assessment of the extent of the IRA arsenal. One senior IRA source told The Irish Times that it did not have an absolute inventory of its stockpiles. Security sources, however, say the IICD has a reasonable assessment of the IRA's weaponry.

It is estimated that the IRA has:

650 Kalashnikov assault rifles

40 Armalite assault rifles

50 heavy and general purpose machine guns

60 Webley revolvers

2 Barret high-powered American sniper rifles

40 rocket launchers

6 flame throwers

1 SAM-7 surface-to-air missile

600 bomb detonators

3 tonnes of Semtex plastic explosives

Capability to make many more tonnes of explosives

Hundreds of thousands of rounds of ammunition
