Two armed men failed in an attempt to raid a delivery to a Dublin ATM machine this morning when security officers still in possession of the cash became locked in an office.

The incident occurred at the Knocklyon shopping centre on Dublin's Southside at 11.40 a.m.

Gardai in Rathfarnham are continuing their investigations but a Garda spokesperson said a Meath registered vehicle was later recovered in Knockfield.

This latest armed raid follows three similar incidents on ATM machines in Dublin and Kildare in the last two weeks.

However, the Gardai said "it was too early to draw any conclusion on possible links at this stage."
