Two Armagh businessmen and their families, including young children, were recovering yesterday after being taken hostage by an armed gang who robbed their cash-and-carry store.

Thousands of pounds worth of cigarettes were taken in the raid on Murphy's at Drumcairn, in the Moy Road area of the city.

The alarm was raised around midnight, after the raiders had fled. None of the hostages was injured, but all were badly shaken by their experience.

Forensic experts spent most of yesterday carrying out a detailed search of the premises for clues.
