Gardaí are investigating an armed raid on a south Dublin post office this afternoon.

Four men were involved, three of whom entered the post office at the Nutgrove Shopping Centre; at least one of whom was armed with a hand gun, and money was stolen.

They fled in a blue Ford Focus car with 2006 registration plates driven by the fourth man. The car was later found abandoned a short distance away at Hermitage Lawns, where it is believed the gang switched to another vehicle.

All four men were wearing fluorescent builder type jackets with hoods and the jackets pulled around their faces.

There were staff and customers in the post office at the time, but no shots were fired and no persons injured. Gardaí said a "non substantial amount of money" was taken.

Anyone with information is asked to contract Rathfarnham Garda Station (01)-6666500 or on the Garda confidential line on 1800-666111.
