BRAZZAVILLE - Gunfire shook parts of the capital of Congo yesterday as supporters of former president Mr Denis Sassou Nguesso clashed with the army for a second day, residents said.

Mr Sassou Nguesso, voted out of office in 1992 after the advent of multi-party politics, accused President Pascal Lissouba of fomenting the violence as an excuse to postpone a July 27th presidential poll in the oil-producing former French colony.
