An Armagh businessman was jailed for three years today for false accounting.

An Armagh businessman was jailed for three years today for false accounting.

Thomas Curran, 60, from Blackwatertown Road was sentenced after a four-year investigation by Customs & Excise officers.

It involved complex fraud centred on false purchase invoices presented as legitimate deductions in the accounts of his business, Curran Waste Disposal Services.

According to Customs there was a revenue loss of more than Stg £1m (€1.5m). Curran who was convicted by a jury last June was sentenced at Belfast Crown Court.
