JERUSALEM - Israeli television said last night that Mr Yasser Arafat had suffered a mild stroke over the weekend, but an aide to the Palestinian leader, Mr Nabil Abu Roudeina, immediately denied the report.

Mr Arafat (67) was said to have had the stroke in Cairo on Sunday after a joint press conference with President Hosai Mubarak of Egypt and King Hussein of Jordan. He was taken to hospital to be examined.
