April 1st may usually be associated with fools but it could turn out to be a momentous day for those smart enough to do the Lotto tomorrow.

The Lotto hasn't been won since March 1th and Wednesday's Jackpot now stands at €8 million.

The last time the jackpot reached such a high amount was in early January when a couple from Co Kerry won €7.7 million after purchasing a €4 Quick Pick ticket in Dannas, Main Street, Ballybunion.

Over two million people now play National Lottery games on a regular basis and on average 81,500 people won National Lottery prizes every day last year.

In 2008 a total of €119.6 million was won in Lotto jackpots and 29 new millionaires were created.

In addition, the National Lottery raised a record €267.8 million for good causes last year, pushing the total amount of funds raised since its establishment in 1987 to more than €3 billion.
