A man has lost his High Court action aimed at requiring Garda authorities tell him why they refused to accept him as a recruit.

Mr Justice Paul Gilligan ruled that the Garda Commissioner was not obliged to tell failed applicants the reasons why.

Joseph Trimble (26) was facing a drink-driving charge when he applied to join the force in 2008. He was told his application could go no further until that charge was dealt with. In January 2009, he successfully appealed a conviction on that charge.
