Gardaí in Dublin say they are “very concerned” for the safety of a man who was assaulted and kidnapped in the north inner city yesterday evening.

The 26-year-old man was chased by a group of men on Russell Avenue, East Wall, at about 4.45pm before being beaten and bundled into a black Volkswagen Golf. The car then fled the scene.

Witnesses said the car had a 05D registration, with a spoiler on the rear, spoked wheels and tinted windows. A Garda spokesman said it was described by witnesses as ‘boy racer’ style.

Gardaí at Store Street said they were very concerned for the man’s safety and have appealed for witnesses.

Anyone who may have seen the occupants of such a car acting suspiciously on or in the vicinity of Russell Avenue at that time, or who may have seen it later, has been asked to contact gardaí at Store Street at 01-6668089, or the Garda Confidential Line at 1 800 666111.
