A man jailed for life for murdering his girlfriend has lost his appeal against conviction

A man jailed for life for murdering his girlfriend has lost his appeal against conviction. Stephen Davis (23) (above), Clonmullen, Athy, Co Kildare, was found guilty at the Central Criminal Court in March 1997 of the murder of Mary Doogue (30), a mother of six, of the same address, at Athy, on October 20th, 1995.

At the Court of Criminal Appeal, Mr Justice Hardiman, with Mr Justice O'Higgins and Mr Justice Kearns, said the court could see no merit in the points taken in the appeal and would refuse the application. It would deliver a written judgment, probably early in the next law term.
