A 21-year-old man is recovering in hospital this morning after being savagely beaten by a number of men in Newtownabbey, Co Antrim last night.

The victim was attacked in his home at Enniskeen Avenue shortly after midnight. The gang, armed with baseball bats, left the man with severe cuts and bruises to the head and body.

A PSNI spokesman described the incident as a paramilitary attack.

Elsewhere, a house in Dromaine Drive in Antrim town suffered slight scorch damage when two petrol bombs were thrown at it last night. There were no reported injuries.
