The number of people detained in Northern Ireland last year under the Prevention of Terrorism Act has dropped by 186 to 369, according to Northern Ireland Office figures published yesterday. During 1999, 105 people were charged with 199 offences including three offences of murder, eight of attempted murder, 17 explosive offences and 52 firearms offences.
