An anti-drug protester who pushed and punched a female garda during scuffles on a balcony of an inner-city flat complex was ordered to carry out 140 hours' community service yesterday.

Denis Mulhall (25), of Rutland Cottages, Summerhill, Dublin, was convicted at Dublin District Court of assaulting Garda Kathy McNamara on January 14th last year.

Judge Con O'Leary remanded the defendant on bail to September 24th for a community service report.
