An anti drugs initiative costing £6 million a year is to be introduced this afternoon by the Minister for Health, Mr Noonan, writes John Maher.

The initiative, approved by the Government yesterday, involves a series of measures aimed at a "more focused" official response to the drug problem.

The measures include a new television and radio advertising campaign and an anti drugs programme in primary schools. The package will cost £4 million this year and £6 million in a full year.
