Anjelica Huston and Jim Sheridan took to a platform in the grounds of Planet Hollywood in Cannes during the week to announce their plans for The Mammy, the Brendan O'Carroll-scripted movie which Huston is set to direct in Dublin in July. "It's a wonderful screenplay," said Huston who will double as the movie's star, playing a fiesty widow and mother of seven in Dublin in 1967.
"As far as I know, this will be the first time a woman has ever directed herself in a feature film," observed Jim Sheridan, who will produce the picture with Arthur Lappin.
Huston said her first choice for the male lead in the movie is Gerard Depardieu. "He's got a very tight schedule, but he would love to do it," she says. "The role is a French baker who's opening a shop in the markets in Dublin."
