The Communications Managers Union at An Post has agreed to defer for one week a proposed one day strike which would have caused serious disruption of postal services. Mr Aidan Hourigan, the union's general secretary, said the executive committee decided yesterday morning to accept a proposal from the Labour Relations Commission that the strike be deferred.

The dispute arises from a refusal by An Post management to meet an arbitrator's award in favour of the union.
