Amnesty International has postponed a meeting with Department of Justice officials aimed at clarifying the circumstances in which a dissident IRA man, Ronan McLoughlin, was shot dead by armed gardai near Ashford, Co Wicklow, during an attempted security van raid in May.

Amnesty, which is demanding an independent inquiry into the shooting, had requested the meeting as part of a fact-finding visit by London-based representatives of the organisation. A spokeswoman said the visit had been postponed for "logistical" reasons and would take place later in the year.
