NEW YORK - Amnesty International has turned its attention to the New York City Police Department, and said it found an unsettling pattern of abuse and excessive force.

"Amnesty International has received disturbing allegations of the ill treatment of suspects, deaths in custody and unjustified shootings by officers", the organisation concluded. In response to the 72 page report, the United Nations Human Rights Commission has announced its own inquiry into the NYPD.
