A passenger plane travelling from Heathrow to Boston was diverted to Dublin Airport last night after it developed difficulties 90 minutes into its Atlantic crossing.

American Airlines flight AAL-155, a Boeing 757 200, developed issues with its nose wheel steering system, forcing it to turn back. It was carrying 172 passengers.

A spokeswoman for Dublin Airport Authority said “it had a full load of fuel and that would have been a cause for concern”.

Seven units of Dublin Fire Brigade were at the airport alongside all units of Dublin Airport emergency services.

The aircraft landed safely at 10.15pm. The emergency slide was not activated.
