Air France KLM has reported that passenger traffic rose 6.2 per cent in March on growth in the Americas and Asia.

The company's load factor was 80.1 per cent in March, up 1.7 points. Load factor is an indication of the proportion of seats an airline has filled on its flights.

Air France KLM said traffic rose 6.2 per cent in the Americas, 11.2 per cent in Asia and 9.1 per cent in the Africa and Middle East network last month.

Traffic rose 3.6 per cent on its medium-haul network, with a 2.8 point gain in load factor. But March cargo traffic fell 2 per cent given weaker demand in Asia, it said. The company's cargo load factor fell 4.9 points in the month to 67 per cent.

Earlier this week, British Airways posted a 4.5 per cent rise in March passenger traffic.
