An Air Corps sea patrol plane was forced to make an emergency landing today due to an engine problem.

The Casa aircraft landed safely at Kerry airport in Farranfore after warning lights in the cockpit went off.

The Defence Forces said all six crew were safe and well.

The aircraft had been on a routine maritime patrol off the west coast at the time of the alert.

A spokesman said one of the aircraft’s two engines was shut down as a precaution, and a controlled emergency landing carried out without incident. The aircraft touched down at 11.55am.

An Air Corps technical team from Baldonnel is to examine the aircraft in Farranfore.
