Ahern appoints new press secretary

The Taoiseach has announced the appointment of a new Goverment press secretary.

The Taoiseach has announced the appointment of a new Goverment press secretary.

Mr Ahern today announced he has appointed Eoghan Ó Neachtain to the post.

Mr Ó Neachtain is a former member (Commandant) of the Defence Forces where he served in various roles both in Ireland and abroad.

He left the Defence Forces in 2000 after a number of years as the Defence Forces press officer. For the past five years he has been public affairs manager with the ESB.

He is a native of Galway and has a Masters Degree in Communications from Dublin City University.

Mr Ó Neachtain will take up his post in the coming weeks.

Former Government press secretary Mandy Johnston was recently appointed a special advisor to the Taoiseach.
