Paris - French road haulage company owners announced early today the lifting of their border blockade which has disrupted trade across Europe. An agreement to end the action was reached at a marathon meeting with the Transport Minister, Mr Jean-Claude Gayssot.

The Irish Road Haulage Association yesterday called on the Government to press for intervention by the European Commission in the dispute as up to 500 Irish lorries spent a second day marooned by the dispute.

The dispute, over plans to reduce the working week from 39 to 35 hours and increases in fuel prices, has blocked thousands of trucks and infuriated neighbouring countries.
