THE CHIEF executive of Aer Lingus, Dermot Mannion, has said the debacle over the €5 fares is over and that it has reached a settlement with all the passengers involved.

The airline provoked protests when it withdrew a €5 offer on its website for passengers to fly business class on transatlantic routes, only to back down in the face of a public outcry. The airline has since offered all 300 people who booked the €5 fare economy class seats as compensation.

Mr Mannion was speaking at the 50th anniversary celebration of Aer Lingus’s first transatlantic flight.
