Aer Lingus delays due to de-icing failure

Aer Lingus flights from Dublin airport were delayed this morning due to a failure in the aircraft de-icing systems.

Aer Lingus flights from Dublin airport were delayed this morning due to a failure in the aircraft de-icing systems.

In a statement the company said there were two de-icer machines working through the night, as temperatures dipped to -3 degrees. At 5 am this morning one of the two de-icer machines broke down resulting in delays to eighteen Aer Lingus flights.

The delays experienced were from 20 minutes up to three hours. The second de-icer has now been repaired and is back in service.

The airline says the backlog has been cleared, but that the delays would have an effect on the rest of today's schedule.

The affected flights are short-haul services to the UK and Continental Europe.
