Aer Lingus has appointed Andrew Macfarlane as its chief financial officer, making permanent a position Mr McFarlane has held on an interim basis since last December.

Prior to joining the airline, Mr McFarlane (53) was finance director of support services and pest control firm Rentokil. He is also a former partner with Ernst Young and held senior positions with Land Securities and Holiday Inn.

Aer Lingus chief executive Christoph Mueller said Mr McFarlane had been “instrumental” in addressing the airline’s key challenges and was a “significant addition” to the executive team.

Shares in the airline were flat this afternoon at €1.045, after earlier dipping to a low of €1.0376.
