An Aer Arann flight en route from Dublin to Galway had to divert to Shannon airport and make an emergency landing this morning because of a technical fault.

The captain of flight RE231 shut down one of the engines shortly after he took off from Dublin at 9am.

Shannon airport emergency services were on standby as the plane, with 30 passengers and five crew on board, landed safely just before 10am.

Passengers were then transported to Galway by coach.
