The Sinn Fein president, Mr Gerry Adams, has called on the British and Irish governments to ensure there is no repetition of the disturbances that arose at Drumcree and elsewhere in the North last year.

Mr Adams, following a meeting with the Garvaghy Road Residents' Committee in Portadown yesterday, said the two governments must uphold the rights of the Garvaghy residents.

Meanwhile, an SDLP delegation led by deputy leader Mr Seamus Mallon met the North's security minister Sir John Wheeler at Stormont yesterday to discuss the North report on parades and policing.
