The Action Cancer Research Unit was established by Action Cancer, a body similar to the Irish Cancer Society. Action Cancer, established in Northern Ireland 25 years ago, promotes awareness of cancer and screening, provides counselling and supports research. The Unit at Queen's receives a grant which enables it to fund doctoral and post doctoral research into cancer. The Unit has a small permanent staff but supports a number of student researchers. Action Cancer also supports research at other institutions.
