LONDON - A secure hospital housing some of Britain's most dangerous mental patients was last night at the centre of a top level paedophile investigation. The Health Secretary, Mr Stephen Dorrell, ordered a government inquiry into allegations of child abuse at Ashworth Special Hospital on Merseyside.

The case of a child who may have been brought into the hospital and interfered with by patients was highlighted by the Prison Officers' Association. The Moors murderer Ian Brady is held at Ashworth.
