Abolition of death penalty ratified in vote

The death penalty has been abolished, following a resounding vote in favour of its removal from the Constitution.

All constituencies voted in favour of its abolition, with an average of 62.08 per cent supporting the referendum.

The highest Yes vote was in Dublin South-East where 72.1 per cent believed the provision for the death penalty should be removed from the Constitution.
