The Abbey Theatre is to stage a separate performance of a play about the Ryan report into clerical sex abuse in Liberty Hall this week as the original venue was not wheelchair accessible.

In a statement the director of the Abbey Theatre, Fiach Mac Conghail said he had already been in contact with the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sport to highlight this “shameful situation”.

The matter of the inaccessibility to the Peacock Theatre, which is located in the basement of the Abbey Theatre was highlighted by author and disability rights campaigner Paddy Doyle who threatened to picket the opening of No Escape due to the venue’s inaccessibility to wheelchair users.
