CANNES - The Arts Council of England has awarded three of its four proposed lottery film franchises, it was announced today. The franchises, funded by National Lottery money, amount to £92.25 million over a six-year period.

The decision was revealed in Cannes yesterday by the British Secretary of State for National Heritage, Mr Chris Smith. He said it would "bring a new creative era for Britain's film industry".
