ATHENS - The leaders of Greece's conservative Orthodox Church have attacked plans to join borderless Europe on the basis that computer codes used under the Schengen accord would use the number of the devil, "666".

Church leaders were critical of the Greek Prime Minister, Mr Castas Simitis, yesterday in their opposition to the Schengen reforms which would do away with border controls across the EU.
