SOME 500 staff in the life assurance and pensions arm of Bank of Ireland in Dublin are to strike next week as a pay increase which they say is due to them since April has not been granted, writes Steven Carroll.

The decision was made at an extraordinary general meeting of staff, who are members of the Unite trade union, last evening at which a motion to take industrial action next Thursday was passed.

Pickets are to be placed on New Ireland/Bank of Ireland Life offices on Dawson Street and Frederick Street and at Bank of Ireland Head Office on Baggot Street, according to Unite regional organiser Colm Quinlan.

Mr Quinlan said that if the issue remained unresolved further industrial action will take place in September. A vote of no confidence in Bank of Ireland CEO Richie Boucher’s management was also recorded.
