Gardaí in Dundalk were last night questioning two men after cannabis worth about €500,000 was found in a raid on a “very significant” growing operation in the Co Louth town.

“This was a commercial enterprise,” said one garda, while the Garda chief superintendent for Louth, Pat McGee, said “there was also a huge public safety risk in this because the electricity had been bypassed”.

Two men, aged 42 and 31 and believed to be from Lithuania, were found in the house in the Seatown area of Dundalk, and were detained under the Drug Trafficking Act.
