Dhaka - At least 50 people were believed drowned yesterday after a small ferry was hit by a larger vessel and sank in the Buriganga river near Dhaka, police said.

Only 10 of the 60 people aboard managed to swim ashore, said a police subinspector, Mr Jashimuddin Bhuiyan, at nearby Fatulla police station.
