JOHANNESBURG - Five people were killed and at least 50 injured when police clashed with a group of dismissed miners near the world's largest platinum mining complex north west of Johannesburg yesterday.

A police spokesman said a gunfight broke out when residents of a squatter camp fired upon officers conducting an anti crime operation.
