Cacak - Some 5,000 people rallied in central Serbia yesterday despite heavy rain to protest against Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic's crackdown on the media and anti-government demonstrators.

"Serbia is becoming the forbidden land where if three people join together 10 policeman want to beat them up," Mr Zoran Djindjic, the head of the opposition Democratic Party, told the crowd in Cacak.
