The Cabinet has approved some €40 million in funding to begin the clean-up of a toxic dump in Cork harbour.

The Cabinet has approved some €40 million in funding to begin the clean-up of a toxic dump in Cork harbour.

Some 500,000 tonnes of waste from decades of steel production is contained on the site at Haulbowline island.

Announcing the funding, Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney said the European Commission would fine the Government if action was not taken.
