Provisional road accident statistics for August show that 40 people were killed and 873 injured. In the same period last year 53 people were killed and 864 were injured.
In the first eight months of this year 278 people were killed on the roads and 6,780 were injured. In the same period last year there were 275 deaths and 6,358 injuries.
