A routine call for Limerick Fire Service ended in a five-hour fight with a factory blaze and a dozen staff being evacuated. The fire service understood they were going to deal with a blazing chip pan at Greenacres Foods at the Limerick Food Centre in the Raheen industrial estate.

When they arrived on Monday night, they had to call in reinforcements when they found the blazing fryer was over 30 ft long, filling a room.
