The Russian authorities are expected to purchase up to 30,000 tonnes of Irish beef under the new protocol agreed with the Department of Agriculture on Thursday.

This deal, which will also allow cattle from Wexford to be exported to Russia, should take 100,000 cattle off the market between now and the end of the year when cattle supplies are at their heaviest.
