London - Free entry to national museums and galleries was yesterday assured for the new millennium as part of a £290 million package announced by the British Culture Secretary, Mr Chris Smith.

Entry to institutions such as the Science and Natural History Museums and Victoria and Albert will become free to all by 2001 thanks to a £100 million cash injection.
