Sao Paulo - Twenty-eight prisoners fled a Brazilian police detention centre early yesterday through a tunnel they had dug through an old cemetery to a nearby house, police said.

Police only discovered the escape and a 15-yard (13-metre) tunnel when a man reported a group of people who looked like prisoners had stolen his car.
