MOGADISHU - Twenty six people were killed and 48 wounded yesterday when forces of the Somali faction leader, Mr Ali Hassan Osman Atto, captured an airstrip from militiamen of his rival, Mr Hussein Aideed, witnesses said.

In north Mogadishu, militiamen loyal to the faction leader, Mr Ali Mahdi Mohammed, apparently seized the main Islamic court prison, killing two militiamen, and freed the prisoners.
