A total of 250 paratroopers will be withdrawn from Northern Ireland in the next two days in the first scaling-down of troops since the IRA ceasefire was declared in July.

The troops being withdrawn are members of the 3rd Battalion of the Parachute Regiment. It is understood that 100 soldiers will leave today from RAF Aldergrove in Co Antrim.
