Gardaí in Limerick have seized an estimated €200,000 worth of heroin during an operation in the Southill area of the city.

A Garda spokesman said the haul was made during an investigation into the murder of 24-year-old Thomas Moran whose body was found outside a burned out house last Monday morning.

Elsewhere a man in his 20s was arrested shortly after 10.30pm yesterday when gardaí seized a quantity of drugs worth nearly €250,000.

Gardaí stopped the man at a checkpoint set up under operation Anvil in Kinnegad, Co Westmeath, last night.

The man was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, and his car was searched, revealing four nine-ounce bars of cocaine.

He is being held at Mullingar Garda station under the Drugs Trafficking Act.
